WoW Wednesday: Bloodmyst Isle – Fewer Puzzles, but More Blood than Myst

Wyrmscar Island
Bloodmyst Isle serves as the secondary zone for Draenei characters, with quests starting at level 10 and slowly ramping up to 22, directly matching the progress of the player. As I said in my review of Azuremist Island, I love the layout of the Draenei zones on Azeroth. They’ve got just a wonderful layout, and all the quests flow naturally into eachother.
In fact, I think the most fun thing about the island is that there’s so many different things to do and kinds of enemies to fight, but everything has a certain gravitas. If you bother to follow every quest on the island, there’s a long overarching story which gives you a sense of accomplishment when you finish it. Unfortunately, once you’ve finished the line, there’s not really much reason to come back.
Mining: Copper, Tin, Silver. Not a ton of ore here, but plenty to keep you moving on your mining. Silver seems to be a little less common in Bloodmyst than it is in other, similar zones, but given the relative uselessness of silver in WoW crafting, this is not much of an issue.
Herbalism: Peacebloom, Silverleaf, Earthroot, Briarthorn, Bruiseweed, Mageroyal. Again, there aren’t big pockets of herbs here, but just enough to make it worth your while to grab them when you can. Notable is the absense of Stranglekelp along the coasts.
Cloth: Linen, Wool A good number of naga, moonkin, satyrs and murlocs along the coasts drop plenty of cloth, but the best bets are the Blood Elves in the northern segments of the zone. They seem to drop a slightly better amount of cloth, and their mix of other item drops is better.
Leather: Light Leather, Light Hide, Ruined Scraps, Medium Leather Basic leather stuff here from the animals in the area. There’s not a tremendous mix of leather dropping beasts, but well enough that you’ll get some before you leave. Most notable is the ravagers, which will drop hide, if you need it.
As far as secondary zones go, this is easily my favorite. The quests are well clustered, lead from one to the next very easily and efficiently, tell a great overall story, and offer a great mix of different quest types. When you exhaust the quest lines for the Draenei and all the quest givers from both islands show up to wish you well, it’s really a pretty awesome experience. The only problem is that there’s nothing here for you once you’re done, and the Draenei zones are so isolated from the rest of the game, once you’ve experienced Bloodmyst, you’ll probably never go back.
