Places of Interest

Wintergrasp Fortress
Vault of Archavon

Wintergrasp is one of those things that you’re either going to love, or you’re never, ever going to see. While world PvP has been around WoW for a long time, and was really ramped up with all the PvP objectives in Burning Crusade, Wintergrasp is the first PvP Only zone in the game, and is PvP only even on PvE and RP servers. There are no real quests, and while there are mobs and mats, there’s not much else to do here but fight for control of Wintergrasp every couple hours.

There’s not much else to it. Winning Wintergrasp gives your faction a little buff, access to Stone Keeper’s Shards and the Vault of Archavon instance. Also, the controlling faction has access to farm elementals for mats within the zone.Which, depending on how your server’s PvP is spread out, could be all the time or never, because the faction with the most guns wins Wintergrasp almost all the time, even with the Tenacity buff (which tries to scale smaller numbers of one faction to match the larger numbers of the other)

Mining: Cobalt, Saronite, Titanium. All the major mats are here, but not in huge numbers. Don’t expect to be anybody’s friend if you stop fighting to go mine up some Titanium or something.

Herbalism: Goldclover, Deadnestle, Frozen Herb, Talandra’s Rose, Tiger Lilly, Icethron, Frost Lotus. Tons of herbs here. There’s actually an online petition to get herbs banished during the battles because herbalists have a tendency to stop PvPing to pick rare herbs. Flower pickers. It should be noted that Wintergrasp is the only zone in the entire game that has Frost Lotus nodes. Otherwise you can only get Frost Lotus as a rare drop from other nodes.

Cloth: None. You will not find any cloth in this zone. A nice break from all the damn Frostweave you’re never going to use.

Leather: None. Similarily, there are no beast mobs here, thus no leather to be farmed. If you think about it, tailors and skinners kind of got screwed with Wintergrasp.

If you enjoy large scale, sprawling PvP battles, with crudely implimented vehicles and odd terrain choices, Wintergrasp is a lot of fun, it’s kind of stupid, running around with no direction and three raids yelling three different strategies in General fun, but fun nonetheless. If you’re repelled by the very thought of PvP, you’d best just stay away. Wintergrasp has actually fallen off in popularity quite a bit, thanks to the quests being rolled back from daily to weekly, the increased interest in the Argent Tournament, and a lack of interest in PvP as things peter out until the next expansion, but if you’re bored and WinterTime says it’s on, a raid will most certainly start up, and you can’t go wrong with trying it out.
