Hock Show Weekend Top Five for January 10th – 16th, 2010

1. The Late Night Wars Continue. Jimmie Kimmel dressing up like Leno and then going *on* Leno and completely destroying him (and NBC let that air?!), Conan hillariously not giving a shit, Letterman letting loose twenty years of pent up frustration? Jimmy Fallon dressing up as Neil Young? It’s been a good week for Late Night. At least Conan’s cashing in to the tune of $30 million.

2. Text Me All Your Money. Tragedy brings out the best, and worst, of everybody. The earthquake that rocked Haiti was horrible, and I’m glad to see how many people are rushing to help, but the amount of money being donated, especially by text, that is either just sitting in limbo or being stuffed into people’s pockets, is just ridiculous.

3. SONY Has Your Back. The much ballyhooed new game “Heavy Rain” is one of the most anticipated new titles coming out on the PS3…for people who love adventure games. Unfortunately, how do I put this delicately…The U.S. cover looks like something a couple of preschoolers put together in between naps. But SONY has already promised that they’re going to release the much nicer European cover in printable form online, so that gamers can swap out the ugly one easily.

4. Dominos Is that Emo Kid from School. I don’t know anybody who would tell you that their favorite pizza is Dominos, but I know people who do eat it. But Dominos is so worked up over this fact, that their new ad campaign is based entirely on saying, “Nobody likes our pizza, and we’re really sad about that. Will you buy some pizza please? :( ” Don’t cut yourself, pizza! Err…Wait. Do. That would save everybody a lot of time.

5. Sarah Palin Has a Job. Sarah Palin debuted this week as a talking head on Fox News. She’s expected to smile and nod when people say things, and spout the company line occasionally. All in all a good job for her. Of course, her contract is for three years, so expect her to be around until mid-October.
