Hock Show Weekend Top Five for February 21st – 28th, 2010
1. Google Is The Evil Empire. After years of Google being everybody’s favorite search engine, and a homsey counterpart to the evil Microsoft empire. Now, Microsoft is the “good” guy, white knighting the broken Yahoo in a court case about Google stealing all the search engine traffic. Microsoft fighting against somebody in an anti-trust case? Why I never!
2. Heavy Rain Is Probably the Game of the Year. In a world of triple A titles, Heavy Rain isn’t one of them. But David Cage finally perfected the “interactive drama” theory that he worked on in Indigo Prophecy, and made a pretty amazing game, that is buggy and quirky as hell, but pretty much the best game that’s going to come up this year. Sorry Mass Effect
3. That King’s Quest Project Finally Shutters It’s Doors. Remember a couple years ago? When Vivendi-Universal said that “Phoenix Studios” could continue their independant game development of King’s Quest IX? Well, Activision bought the King’s Quest License, and has issued a cease and desist order, finally ending the development of the game. Not that I was expecting much from a game that was started in 2002, and hadn’t seen much development. But still.
4. Being Weird on TV Has It’s Perks. That “Pants on the Ground” guy, General Larry Platt was in Vegas this weekend. And he’s got tens of thousands of dollars for just showing up in the clubs last week singing his stupid song. I really need to go make an ass out of myself on TV.
5. You’re So Vain, You Probably Think This Headline Is About You. Carly Simon finally announced who that song was about. Apparently, it wasn’t even about one of the million guys she apparently had sex with, it was about David Geffen, the gay record executive. Nobody saw that coming! I thought it was about me!
