Hock Show Weekend Top Five for July 4th – 10th, 2010
1. Like LeBron, I Am Moving On. I can finally stop acting like I care about LeBron James now that he’s made his way to Miami. Seriously, if you thought he was going to wind up back in Cleveland…I don’t know. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t blame him for wanting a championship, but Miami? Seriously? Why not bring your act to some long suffering city that would actually appreciate the title. Like…Cleveland. Oh.
2. Alpha Protocol Is Dead. SEGA made a big showing of doing a press release saying that they loved everything about Alpha Protocol but the shooting and the sales. Which is fair. So now they’re halting plans for a sequel. Which is really too bad, because Alpha Protocol is one of the most enjoyable (if very flawed) storytelling experiences in gaming this year.
3. Speaking of Video Games, Check Out Dragon Age 2. Dragon Age 2 was officially announced this week. It was super inevitable, but there it is. But here’s the weird thing. They’ve gone from making a classic Western RPG to making…Mass Effect and Fable. I’m really not a big fan of this change, but it is what it is. I’ll have more to say when I get all emo about it towards the end of the year.
4. That World Cup Octopus This Over. The Soctopus correctly predicted that Spain would win the World Cup, which they did 1-0 over the Netherlands. It was, I’m sure, a great World Cup, but to be honest, other than the Octopus and about ten seconds of the bronze medal game I accidentally watched, I haven’t paid attention in a week.
5. Blizzard Talked Out of Disaster. Blizzard sent out a press release earlier this week, trying to convince people that posting on their forums with their Real ID (i.e. your real first and last name and e-mail) was going to be a good idea. Um…In a game like WoW? With griefing how it is, and people so fanatical about it? Yeah. Not so much. Thankfully, they announced on Saturday that they were scrapping the plans.
