Hock Show Weekend Top Five for November 10th - 14th, 2008

Five Stories That Are (not) Changing Your World.

1. The Sirius/XM Merger Is Done and It Sucks. So the merger was supposed to be a great deal for customers, right? All the Sirius and XM programming together on one network, ala carte pricing, all the major American sports, sounds great, right? Uh...Not so fast. Sirius XM announced this week that they're closing down more than half of their stations, censoring their more intense programming, and consolidating several unreleated genres onto one station (hint: if you like music in Spanish, you've got one station to listen to). This was...not a good idea.

2. Wrath of the Lich King Launched. Players from servers worldwide have already hit level eighty. It'll take me, like, a friggin' month. I'm excited about my new Death Knight, though. They look pretty frigging badass, I have to say. Oh, shut up. It's better than going out and buying that new Sonic Werewolf game.

3. Who's President Again? So, Barack Obama won't be the President until January 20th, he's already selected a 30 person "transition team" to fix all of the U.S.' problems. Now, of course they'll probably do a better job of it than George Bush, but shouldn't Obama at least let the guy's career die somewhat gracefully? At least this gives us a chance to prepare ourselves for Hillary Clinton: Secretary of State.

4. Your Favorite TV Show Was Cancelled. Two critically acclaimed TV shows were cancelled this week. "My Own Worst Enemy" and "Pushing Daisies" will not return for another season. In the case of "Pushing Daisies," the creative team is already discussing a film to wrap things up (and a return to "Heroes"). On the whole, however, another ten to fifteen major network shows are expected to be canned in the next few weeks.

5. Dan's Favorite Internet TV Thing Is Falling Apart. Revision3, the Kevin Rose project that I hated and Dan loved, is shutting down more than half its shows. On the chopping block are most of its expensive content, including anything with Hock Show friend Martin Sargent, and fellow TechTV stalwart (and former Rose girlfriend) Sarah Lane. Oh economic crisis, who do you have to be so fair?
